A tenure post in the Railways is a permanent position that has a limited term. The maximum tenure for a post may vary depending on the position and the organization
Tenure posts (IREC I - 118 ) –
1) The President may declare any posts outside the cadre of a regular service as tenure.
(2) No officer in Group A shall in the normal course hold any of the posts noted below for more than the periods shown against each:-
Posts in Railway Board - 5 years
Directors, Additional Directors, Joint Directors, Railway Board. - 4 years
Directors, Additional Directors, Joint Directors, Research Design and Standard Organisation. - 4 years
Railway Liaison Officer - 4 years
Divisional Railway Manager, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Deputy General Manager. - 3 years
Also
- Ex-cadre posts -The tenure for officers and staff posted against these posts is five years.
- The tenure for sensitive posts may be limited to four years.
- The tenure for ex-cadre posts may be extended by one year at a time
- The extension may be granted to meet administrative exigencies.
- The President may decide if a particular post is a tenure post if there is any doubt.
